We once rode the New York City subway during a weekday around lunchtime, and watched in awe as every mother and child got on with the exact same stroller.

Did NYC only sell one model, we wondered? Was is *that* trendy of a town that everyone had to have the same brand?

So we asked.

Turns out there is only one brand of lightweight-enough-for-the-NYC-subway stroller that is *really* lightweight enough for the subway: The Maclaren. And these women? They swore by it.

However, there are some other good brands out there too, and we have pulled the best deals available on lightweight strollers onto one quality controlled page. (Keep scrolling down for the eBay inventory.) The Maclaren is to the left if you want to go straight to the NYC-mom-approved items.

If we have missed something awesome, please let us know. Most of all, happy shopping!

What exactly is a lightweight stroller?

There are a lot of strollers out there that claim to be lightweight, and still weigh a ton when you actually get them? What’s up with that, we wondered?

Part of it is that any product that uses aluminum structural supports considers that change to be enough of a weight reduction to quality the product as “lightweight”. However, just because a stroller does not weight the five tons that the Graco tanks do (Graco strollers tend to be the heaviest out there, but also the most durable, and have been known to last for decades) does not qualify it as lightweight.
